Individual assessment
Individual assessment work with a child/young person is tailored to their individual needs and the request for assessment. An initial consultation will be carried out to help understand the concerns being raised and plan a way forward. The assessment usually takes place in school but home visits can be arranged where needed. An assessment typically involves:
– Observation
– 1:1 work with the child/young person
– Discussion with key staff and parents
– Use of questionnaires/checklists
– A comprehensive written report detailing the assessment and specific recommendations to meet the child/young person’s needs.

Consultation
Working together to understand a child and jointly develop a feasible action plan is often the most effective way to work because each person in the group is able to contribute and have ownership over the actions that are agreed upon. Consultation supports the plan-do-review process in school and means that we can identify what works for the child/young person, adapt their support and intervention in the short-term and make plans for the long-term. Consultation can take place as part of a thorough assessment or can be a one-off problem-solving meeting.
Capacity building
Supporting school staff to develop their skills means that more children/young people are likely to benefit from Educational Psychology involvement. Katie can provide whole school training, small group development work, parenting support, parent workshops, mentoring/coaching, individual staff supervision, and action research.

School Contracts
Educational Psychologists and schools work best together when there is the opportunity to develop a good working relationship over time and establish working patterns that meet the needs of the individual school. Schools who wish to have the security of an available educational psychologist across the school year can purchase a termly or yearly contract at a discounted rate, secured by a Service Level Agreement. The package of support can be made up of individual casework and development work such supervision, training or parent support.
